How To Register A Domain Name and Get Hosting
AdSense Tips May 26th, 2007Here’s a how-to for purchasing a domain name and get hosting for your site. When it comes to getting a domain name your first focus should be on getting your main keyword in your domain. This will give you a slight edge in rankings and certainly will not hurt your efforts.
The one thing to avoid is getting too crazy with your keywords. You want a short and simple domain and you want to avoid keyword stuffing. For example, if my main keywords were “dog training” and “puppy training” I wouldn’t go and register a domain like: www.dog-training-puppy-training-dog-obedience.com. Ok, so that may be overkill but you get the idea.
Instead I want to get a domain with dog training in it but I also want it to be short and to the point. Try to limit your hyphens to 1 or possibly 2 if needs be. After a quick check at Godaddy I found www.WiseDogTraining.com. It has my main keyword, it’s a .com (which I suggest you stick with) and it makes sense and is easy to remember. I get all my domais from Godaddy and have never had a single problem. They are cheap and have great customer service.
Once you have your domain picked out, you will then need a place to host it. For all of my personal websites I use 1 hosting company and that is Host Gator. For $10 you can have a hosting account in which you can host unlimited sites with email and all the bells and whistles. Host Gator also offers the Fantastico suite which makes installing a Wordpress blog (which we will be doing later) very easy with just a couple clicks.
If you order a Host Gator account through the my affiliate link below I will setup up your account for you. If you are a beginner or unfamiliar with the process it will save you a lot of headaches. Just follow the link below and then send me your receipt number and I will set up your account and install your Wordpress blog for you.
Those two steps should only take you a couple hours at most.
If you have any questions just post a comment below and I will get you the answer.
