If you are running Google AdSense on your websites then you are required by Google to have a privacy policy. Due to Google’s interest based targeting you must have some specific language in your privacy policy to let your visitors know whats going on.

Google actually started requiring this early in 2009 but I still see many websites with AdSense ads on them that do not have the proper privacy policy. Not having the proper privacy policy can lead to your AdSense account being terminated so I would urge you to get one up on your site.

Google uses DoubleClick DART cookies which place cookies on your visitors computer in order to better serve ads. So you must let your visitors know this and also link them to the DoubleClick page where they can opt-out of this ad serving on all sites using this advertising by visiting: http://www.doubleclick.com/privacy/dart_adserving.aspx

There is some other stuff that should be in there too but I won’t go into detail about all of it because: a) I am not a lawyer and b) I found a great template you can use for your own sites. It is from Jensense.com and you can view it here

One of the most popular questions I see in regards to AdSense is what is the AdSense payout ratio?

Well I just read a great article that claims the payout ratio is 70% of the advertiser cost. So if an advertiser is paying $1 per click on the Google Content Network and you site has their ads, when someone clicks on the ad on your site you would receive $.70 in earnings.

This payout falls right in line with what I have seen people report. I have seen it reported as high as 80% but according to this article they found the 70% payout ratio by looking at 2 clients accounts. 1 client was running an AdWords campaign while the other was running AdSense ads. Through some testing they found that one of their AdWords ads cost them $.62 and their AdSense income was $.43…giving a ration of 69%.

While reading the article they seem to have switched the numbers above and I have no way to verify the truth of the article but it is an interesting read either way.

You can read the full article here

I just ran across a great article that detailed 5 easy ways to boost your AdSense earnings. Here is a quick summary a couple of the tips that I though were most benefical:

1. Pick the right ad format. The article suggested using the 336X280 format and I agree as I have always got the best CTR with that ad format.

2. Choose the right colors. If your site has a white background then your ads should also have a white background. If the links on your site are blue then the links in your ads should be blue. You want your ads to match your site as much as possible.

3. Placement. You always want to make sure that your ads are in the prime real estate on your site. In most cases this means above the fold and I usually like to surround them with my content. Do try to hid your AdSense ads, if you do no one will ever click on them!

These 3 tips alone will greatly increase your AdSense CTR and earnings if followed properly. You can read the full article here.

When it comes to Google AdSense alternatives you have many choices to choose from. There is no reason to only use AdSense on your website and in some cases other forms of advertising may actually yield higher returns. Of course, always test to find out the best monetization choices.

All of the Google AdSense alternatives listed below CAN be used in conjunction with AdSense.

**Top Choice** 1. Chitika - Chitika offers what they call eMiniMalls. You choose what keywords you want your ad optimized for so you can choose products that are not necessarily talked about on your site but you feel your readers would be interested in. I have found that Chitika works best on sites about products like electronics or clothing.

I have one site where Chitika pays around $.35 per click while AdSense pays about $.05 a click. Open a Chitika account now.

#2. Auction Ads – Auction Ads let you display live eBay auctions on your website. When someone clicks your ad and goes to eBay and wins an auction you get 50% – 75% commission in eBay revenue. If that person is not a current member of eBay and they sign up then you also get a commission of $25 – $35.

What I like best about Auction Ads is that it is almost impossible to find something that is not listed for sale on eBay and therefore it is a great way to monetize even the most obscure content. Open a Auction Ads account now.

#3. Kontera – Kontera offers in-text advertising and is fine to run alongside AdSense. Kontera reads through the text on your site and then places links on keywords that it finds. I am running it on this site so you can see an example of it within the text here.

My results with Kontera have been hit or miss but it does supply some extra income so you might as well test it out and see what results you can get from it.

#4. CPA Offers – Cost Per Action refers to ads that require the person to do something like enter an email, fill out a form, download a program, etc. There are hundreds, if not thousands, out CPA companies out there. My personal favorite is AzoogleAds because it’s simplicity and tracking options.

#5. Affiliate Products – The only reason I put affiliate products after CPA offers is because with affiliate products the person actually has to buy something. The payouts may be bigger for affiliate products but conversions are much lower. There are a ton of affiliate programs out there but my two favorites are Commission Junction and Clickbank.

#6. Free IQ – FreeIQ is a new service that has a wealth of videos and audio files that people can freely browse. How do you make money? When you sign up as an affiliate your can refer people to the site and if they buy something you get a commission. It is basically YouTube…with an affiliate program. It is a truly revolutionary site.

Open you FreeIQ account now.

There you have it. The 6 best Google AdSense alternatives, each of which can be run alongside Google AdSense Ads.
